Ask someone who summers here where Atlantic County lives in October and they will point at the ocean out of habit. Ask someone who owns a home in Galloway, Hammonton, or Somers Point and you will get a different map. From Labor Day through Thanksgiving, the county's center of gravity slides inland. The parking lots that matter are behind a historic village, a corn maze in the Pinelands, and a jazz stage on the bay.
That shift is the point of this guide. If you already live here year-round, the fall calendar is not a shore calendar with a few pumpkin patches attached. It is a mainland calendar with the beach reduced to a supporting act.
The Fall Map, Weekend By Weekend
Before the detail, the shape of the season. Every event below has a confirmed 2026 date and is inside Atlantic County or immediately adjacent.

|---|---|---|
| Aug 29 – Nov 1 (Fri–Sun) | The Red Barn Farm Sunflower & Fall Festival, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday | Hammonton |
| Sept 19–20 | Pine Barren Events fall show, 3610 Nesco Rd | Hammonton |
| Sept 28 | Batsto Village Antique, Glassware & Bottle Show | Hammonton |
| Oct 3–4 | Historic Smithville Oktoberfest, 10:00am to 5:00pm each day | Galloway |
| Oct 10–11 | Smithville Irish Festival | Galloway |
| Oct 16–18 | Jersey Fresh Jazz@The Point Festival | Somers Point |
| Oct 17 | Smithville Costume Pet Parade | Galloway |
| Oct 18 | Trunktoberfest at Lucy the Elephant | Margate |
| Oct 18 | Smithville Corvette Show | Galloway |
| Oct 24 | Smithville Monster Bash | Galloway |
| Oct 25 | Smithville Witches Day | Galloway |
| Nov 28–29 | Holiday Dickens Fest, Smithville | Galloway |
Ten of those twelve entries are inland. That is the whole thesis in one column.
Why Galloway Runs This Season
Historic Smithville is the reason a Galloway address feels different in October than it does in July. The village hosts more than two dozen free events across the year, and the fall stretch is where the schedule tightens into back-to-back weekends.
Oktoberfest is the anchor. The 2026 dates are October 3–4, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with more than 150 juried craft vendors, international cuisine, family activities, nonprofit exhibits, and festive entertainment throughout the village. If you live within a ten-minute drive, the practical detail worth knowing is the shuttle. A free shuttle runs from 9:30am to 5:30pm each day, departing from Smithville Square at 45 S New York Rd, Galloway. Parking at the village itself gets swallowed early on a Saturday. Locals know to leave the car at the Square and skip the crawl.
What is easy to miss is that Oktoberfest is only the first weekend of a run. The Irish Festival lands the following Saturday and Sunday. Then a Costume Pet Parade, a Corvette Show, a Monster Bash, and Witches Day close out October. All of this sits alongside the village's 50 shoppes, train and carousel rides, paddle boats, seven eateries, and antique arcades that operate year-round anyway. For a homeowner, that is four straight weekends of a walkable, dog-friendly, no-admission destination fifteen minutes from most Galloway front doors.
Hammonton Is The Other Anchor
If Galloway owns the village-square version of fall, Hammonton owns the farm version. The Red Barn Farm sits in the heart of Hammonton's Pinelands and is built around a 120-year-old barn, with the Sunflower & Fall Festival running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from August 29 through November 1.
Two details separate this one from every generic pumpkin patch write-up. First, the pricing model. There is no admission, so visitors walk in and only pay for the attractions they want. That matters if you have kids at different ages, because the six-year-old wants the bounce pillow and the twelve-year-old wants the corn maze, and you are not paying a flat gate fee for both to do neither. Second, the maze itself. Ten acres of trails carved into a design that pays tribute to the NJ Pinelands, with a Flashlight Night Maze option after dark. A night maze in the Pinelands, in late October, is not something the shore towns are producing.
The other Hammonton stop residents underuse is Batsto. The Batsto Village Antique, Glassware & Bottle Show falls on September 28, and it is one of the few weekends where the historic village hosts a genuine trading crowd rather than a tour crowd. Pair it with lunch on Bellevue Avenue and you have a Sunday.
The pattern here is worth naming. Fall in Atlantic County is not a beach season with a few farm add-ons. It is a farm and village season with the beach as an option.
What Somers Point Adds In The Middle Of October
The best single weekend on the mainland calendar might be October 16 through 18, when the Jersey Fresh Jazz@The Point Festival takes over Somers Point. Somers Point in mid-October is different from Somers Point in mid-July. The bay traffic thins, the restaurants have their tables back, and the festival gives residents a reason to walk in and out of a night without fighting for a spot on Bay Avenue.
If you live in Linwood, Northfield, or Egg Harbor Township, this is the weekend to skip the beach block traffic and drive south instead. If you live in Ocean City proper, the Route 52 causeway lands you at the festival before most people have finished coffee.
If You Still Want The Beach, Two Days Are Worth It
Two shore dates earn a place on this calendar. The first is race weekend. The Atlantic City Marathon is part of the city's annual race series, and residents who do not run still show up for the boardwalk energy on race morning. The second is October 18 at Lucy. Trunktoberfest at Lucy the Elephant in Margate is a rare downbeach event that a mainland family can pull off in an afternoon, park in a lot, and be home before dinner.
Beyond those, the beach in October is a place to walk. The events are inland.
A Note For Homeowners
The reason to spell all of this out is not just weekend planning. It is a reminder that year-round Atlantic County has its own shoulder season, and that shoulder season is a real amenity when you value what you own here. A Galloway house within the Smithville shuttle radius, a Hammonton house near Route 206 and the farms, a Somers Point block within walking distance of Bay Avenue during the jazz festival — these are lifestyle facts that a summer-only visitor does not price in.
If you have ever tried to explain to a friend from out of state why you like it here in November, the answer is on this calendar. October and early November are the months where Atlantic County stops performing for visitors and starts operating for the people who live in it.
For homeowners thinking about selling into next spring's market, fall is also the quietest time to prep a listing, take photography before the leaves fully drop, and time a launch for early season buyers. For anyone weighing a move from a shore rental into a year-round address, this is the season that answers the question of what daily life looks like when the beach parking lots empty out.
